Take It From Dad

Today's topic for Blog Every Day In May is to offer a piece of advice. I have decided to share a few words of wisdom from my Dad. He is usually the first person I go to for advice because I always know I am going to get a straight answer from him. No fluff, no sugar coating.. just the plain (sometimes cold and hard) truth. But I appreciate every piece of advice, no matter how harsh it may be.

Usually the first thing he says to me is "Calm down and just breathe!" Note to self: he tells you this all the time, learn to do this before you call him. Nine times out of ten, taking a few deeps breaths really helps with my ability to cope.

Just breathe is usually followed by something along the lines of..

"When the door of opportunity opens, walk through it without hesitation, you never know where it will benefit you in the end."

I have been had some big life changes in the last couple months and I have been experiencing some minor anxiety regarding these changes. My Dad does a wonderful job of trying to keep my on tack and focused on following my opportunities.

In addition I have also been hearing.."Set up a retirement fund.. NOW! You don't want to be 80 and still have to work!" And by recently I mean on average, three times a day. He is like a broken record. But I guess I prefer for him to be "wanna pull your hair out" annoying rather than not caring or preparing my for the real world.

Thank you Dad, for always sharing the best advice. You may think I roll my eyes at all your constant nagging but truly I am absorbing all your advice!

So make sure to always walk through the door of opportunity and don't forget to set up a retirement fund if you haven't done so already, who wants to work when they are 80?

    Especially since it's your dad!
